Huntley High School proudly hosted its second “Chuck-A-Duck” fundraiser at the varsity boys basketball game against Jacobs High School on Friday, January 26. The fundraiser, led by social studies teacher Brad Aney and Raider Nation students, raised approximately $2,600 to support the Grafton Food Pantry.
Funds were raised through the sale of more than 500 rubber ducks, purchased by parents, staff and community members. Participants were invited to throw the ducks onto the basketball court at halftime. Those whose ducks landed closest to center court won prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes included a 65-inch TV, a one-month health club membership, prom tickets, a free yoga party, and more. Cash and canned food donations were also accepted to support the local food pantry.
The inaugural duck throw fundraiser was started last year by Raider Nation leader Michael Dabe and raised more than $20,000 for two families of HHS students battling cancer.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our Raider Nation leaders and their willingness to go above and beyond to help out people who need it most in the Huntley community,” said Aney. “Since they committed to take on this role at the beginning of the school year, these students have represented the “You Matter” philosophy of Huntley High School and I couldn’t be more proud of the leaders that they’ve become.”
